Skate Away 3 Coursebook

Skate Away! 3 is the third book of the Skate Away! series. The aim of this level is for pupils to acquire a good elementary knowledge of English. They will be helped on this journey by the five children in the series as they have new adventures and make new friends.

The coursebook starts with a warm-up section which helps pupils revise their previous knowledge. The coursebook contains 30 lessons in total, divided into 5 sets of 6 lessons each.

Before every set of 6 lessons, pupils are given the objectives of those lessons and information related to that six-lesson set as well as a song which introduces pupils to some relevant new vocabulary and allows them to have fun while practising their pronunciation.

After each 6-lesson set, there is a comic strip which unfolds in episodes; a fun break that motivates students and creates the conditions for further discussion. A revision section and a self-assessment questionnaire follow. They allow pupils to assess their progress, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and take responsibility for their own learning.

Each lesson consists of:

• a reading text (in one of various forms: dialogue, email, magazine article, poster, letter, etc.) which introduces pupils to the grammar, vocabulary and functional language that will be studied in the lesson
• reading comprehension activities that test pupils' understanding of the text
• vocabulary activities, based on the new language introduced on the first page of the lesson
• grammar tables and activities
• activities for all three skills: speaking activities (often in the form of a game), listening activities of various types and writing activities with emphasis on guiding pupils through the process of writing
• a pronunciation task which gives pupils more practice in pronouncing words and sounds (in the odd-numbered lessons)
