The Student’s Coursebook is made up of 30 core lessons of two pages each. Throughout the course, emphasis is given to listening and repeating, with secondary emphasis on letter-writing. The syllabus has the following structure:

  • 6 lessons at the beginning of the book, focusing on basic vocabulary, functional language and singing. These lessons bring pupils into contact with basic conversational English. They focus mainly on listening, recognition and repetition, but also give ample pre-writing practice.
  • 14 lessons teaching the name and sound of the letters with pictures and easy-to-read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, where emphasis is on recognition. Pupils also learn the numbers 1-10 and basic colours.
  • 12 theme-based lessons, introducing thematically linked vocabulary and basic language function.
Teacher's Book 
The Teacher’s Book includes a Teacher’s Guide with transcripts, guidelines for approaching the activities in the Coursebook and Workbook, ideas for extra games and activities as well as extra photocopiable material.

Rusty Pre-Junior is accompanied by Colour with Rusty!: a colouring book that helps pupils develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while having fun. Each page contains one image for pupils to colour in. They can decorate the pages in any way they want. Rusty’s colouring book also features a range of holiday themes to celebrate with colour!
